Sapling
Sapling is the result of a few spare days, some experimentation, and an old (and abused) rimu table.
I bought the original rimu table off marketplace for $15, and it sat in pieces in my garage for many months. It was intended as a quick dining table for my house, but I felt rather uninspired by its form - I couldn’t quite bring myself to subject this fiery timber to such a mundane, rectangular existence.
Being built largely from scraps, I allowed myself to attack the creative process with an amount of reckless abandon. I executed the first ideas that came to mind, and I didn’t realise the figure I had created was at all tree-like until it was pointed out to me.
Ash and recycled rimu, finished with oil, water-based lacquer, and wax. Late 2023.
