Hope & Resignation
An art furniture piece designed to provide warmth and comfort in uncertain times.
Hope & Resignation is meant to be a visual reminder of those two feelings after which it is named, and the fact that they seem to be present in us all.
Upon opening the larger cabinet (Hope) I wanted to reveal a warmth and brightness that was initially unexpected. The smaller cabinet (Resignation) is conversely dark and knotted, featuring a charred panel of ash inside, and can be used to burn incense.
Carcasses in ash and blackwood. Details in beech, rimu, sapele, and mild steel. Finished with oil and wax. Late 2023.
